I am a therapist, a woman, an artist, a singer, a writer, PhD Student, an advocate, and most importantly I am a human being who is dedicated to helping others. Many of us carry around labels that we've been given by parents, by friends, and by doctors. Sometimes labels are very useful to us and other times they can get in the way. As opposed to looking at diagnoses and titles, I prefer to look at the whole person. I approach symptoms and unhealthy behaviors as obstacles and issues that we can learn how to change and/or manage. Our identities are not defined by our diagnoses, our job title, or the roles we take on.
Therefore my approach to therapy somewhat differs from client to client. If you are looking for help with a specific problem, I will help you solve it. If you just need to talk to someone, I'll be an ear to listen. If you're struggling with issues that you can't quite tap into or that you don't quite understand, a different bottom-up approach may be most helpful for you.
The following are some of the values I try to live by in my practice (in no particular order):
I BELIEVE:
In your ability to take control of your life and feel better
In focusing on your strengths and skills not just your struggles
In your ability to learn new things to better manage your life
That everything changes and that's a great thing!
That all people are inherently good
That you are fully capable of healing yourself, and that my purpose is to help you do that.
That you are an expert in YOUR life, and I'm an expert in helping people. Together we can accomplish a great deal.
I WILL:
Work for you! Your goals are my goals.
Always be real and genuine
Always be honest
Occasionally use humor
Often use metaphors and quotes and explain concepts
Do everything in my power to help you find your power
At the end of the day, your comfort and connection with me are what matter most. So if you're still not sure, contact me today! I'm happy to talk and answer your questions, no strings attached.
